Start with one goal you understand
Write down your own cases/hour goal and whether it uses elapsed or productive time. Avoid copying a target from another warehouse, shift, or job. If your workplace reports a percentage, don't assume the same cases/hour goal produces the same percentage.
Update your completed work when it's safe to do so
After an order or during an appropriate pause, record completed cases. Add them to a running shift total. Never stop in an equipment path or operate a phone while moving a pallet jack or other equipment. Follow your workplace's device policy.
What if your warehouse has no cell service?
Some work areas have weak reception or none at all. Once set up, the My Pick Rate Android app can save your shift entries directly on your phone while you keep tracking your pace. When service returns, those saved entries can sync to your account. If you are using the web calculator instead, do not assume the page will open without a connection. Read the no-cell-service tracking guide for the differences and a safe backup routine.
Check the time, not just the count
At 10:00 a.m., if you've picked 420 cases across 2.5 counted hours, your running pace is 168 cases/hour. If you pick another 320 in two hours, your new pace is 740 ÷ 4.5 = about 164.4 cases/hour. The overall rate is weighted by time—not the average of the two section rates.
Note breaks and different assignments
If your numbers change after a break or a switch from dry to cooler work, record the context. Short, awkward orders, congestion, and long travel can all affect a raw pace. The break comparison tool can show the effect of time treatment without claiming to reconstruct a WMS score.
Check weekly or monthly trends fairly
Choose the same measure from week to week. Your combined pace should be total cases across shifts divided by the sum of counted hours. Pay attention to how repeatable your performance is, not just one unusually high day. Keep your own record private unless you choose to share it.
If you are tracking consistently but still struggling to make rate, use a practical improvement routine to identify one part of the assignment to review with a trainer.
A quick calculator or a shift tracker?
For one calculation, use the free cases-per-hour calculator—no sign-in. For ongoing entries, My Pick Rate's Android app provides Quick Entry, Live Pace and monthly summaries so you don't have to keep a separate note or spreadsheet.
